Jimmy lived in the U.S. for 13 years. Now he lives in a dump between Todos Santos and Pescadero in Mexico. He built his house here, in the middle of the trash, made from discarded materials. That’s how Jimmy is making money, by recycling what other people throw away. His highest income derives from collecting aluminum cans. For 1kg, which equals around 65 cans, he gets 16 pesos.  Less than one dollar.

Ricardo and José

Just like Jimmy, Ricardo and his brother José live and work in the dump. They are helping Santo to find wood for building a shelter on his ranch. Their work has been slowed down by of the many fires started by the governing authorities every day. Setting the trash on fire is often the only way for many communities in Mexico to deal with the vast amount of things people throw away.
